Kirk Gibson's 1988 World Series historic home run-bottom of the 9th
Просмотров 2,1 млн10 лет назад
Kirk Gibson's historic home run in the bottom of the 9th inning- game one of the 1988 World Series between the Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Announced by Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola. Gibson was at the plate for a full 6 minutes. No one ever came forward with this historic and valuable home run ball. While obviously not the HD quality that we are used to today, this SVHS tape h...

"My Woman Left Me" by The Brothers Four
Appropriate song choice: "Happy Days Are Here Again."
before the digital graphics telling you everything. before everyone at the stadium had dodger hats & jerseys. before you could act like a ho and not step up. and the horse shaking off a fly comment was awesome.
Life before this multicultural disaster today.
1:07 of silence by Vin Scully after the call of the HR is a master class of play by play. He let the crowd roar in the stadium and all over LA and the moment settle in before saying anything. Just simply a master class.
Modern sports are missing this. It's marvelous!😅
I have never witnessed this before, I'm deeply moved, tears welling up, what a beautiful moment..😮
These were the good old days. R.i.p. Tommy Lasorda
Naturally in the bottom of the ninth, in the World Series, two balls and two outs following by a series of throws to first base to out a runner off base. You can't writes suspense like this.
The greatest theater of any baseball game I ever saw, the greatest home run I ever saw. He changed their lives, per Hershiser.💙
Kinda reminds me of the MICK .
And I Bet you and Your Dad Miss Chick Hearn Lakers Announcer! Chick was the Best! 🏀
I remember this like it was yesterday.
And the car hitting the breaks before the ball cleared the fence.
I haven’t watched baseball since Cal Ripken Jr retired.
The greatest HR ever, regular or post season
Steve sax.I got the yips Steve sax? Peace out.
36 years ago and... This is easily the greatest Dodgers memory of my lifetime. I watched it at home, and leaped out of my easy chair So High, I jammed my knuckles into the cottage cheese coating on the ceiling leaving 8 finger marks scratched into it as a monumental reminder of the most thrilling at bat in Dodger history.
The greatest moment in L.A. Dodgers history and with that they went on to Win the World Series.
Its hard to believe that the Dodgers have Not done a damn thing since. 35 years.
I was such an As fan while they was in the cellar all the time in Kansas City and played like girls. But I did get to see all those big hall of famers, from other teams though most rested a lot when they played because they beat them with back up players. Until they moved to Oakland. Unbelievable. Then they win 3 titles in a Row.
The class the Baseball players had then was great !
Arthur Lee is God
GIBBY VS THE ECK......CLASSIC!!!
Dodgers gae Forever
If ever there will truly be a “Field of Dreams” from heaven….Gibson will be in the line up and Vin Scully will be its announcer. This was already a Godsend that has gone down in history as the hit that won the World Series early and had the greatest announcer ever.
In an alternate universe, Gibson hits a sinking liner to right field and gets thrown out at first base.
Another wonderful aspect of this moment is the immediate introduction of the pipe organ. Today, there would be ear-splitting jungle music to take the spontaneity out of the fans' celebrations.
My favorite part of this is not the showdown between Eckersley and Gibson. It's not Gibson's homerun and the crowd going crazy. It's not Gibson's trot around the bases doing that pump. My favorite part is seeing Tommy Lasorda running out of that dugout with his arms in the air and just loving his players. That guy bled Dodger blue.
Mets kicked these Bums asses all year then they learned how to pitch!
Back in? The good old days
HUH?? "Have you ever had a feeling like THIS?" DUHHHH😖 1984?!
I wIsh somebody would post Gibson’s AB using Don Drysdale’s play-by-play
Gibson was a very tough guy and he rubbed some people the wrong way. But at the end of the day it's the tough people who come through in situations like this. What Gibson did here will never be forgotten and no one is going to remember whether he was nice to everyone or not. He gave his best when it mattered the most and that's all you can ask of anyone.
Vin Scully never had to adjust his broadcasting style for a national audience. Besides being perhaps the greatest announcer of all time, he was essentially a non-biased reporter. Even as the voice of the Dodgers for 67 years, he never verbally rooted for them from the booth. I'm a fan of that approach and I miss it in some of the current baseball commentators.
you can literally see Gibson getting his timing with every swing, truly brilliant.
And the people that left early shame on them .I bet u regret it all of your life.
And Dodger stadium has never been louder.I will take this moment to my grave.
I was 9 years old and watched it happen here in Toronto Canada.
That was one of the best moments ever

Wow PICTURE THIS THE WS 4 YEARS EARLIER WAS DETROIT VS PADRES? IN THE 9th INNING GIBSON HIT THE GAME WINNING HR WHO CALLED IT? "VIN" SCULLY CAN YOU SAY DEJA VU????
LoL, McGuire during his early 'roid years.
I was there that night...it was magic. I didn't get a chance to hear Vin call the shot until years after. The 9th inning was amazing and the crowd was LOUD. Nobody left Dodger stadium for an hour after the home run and I couldn't talk for a week as the vocal cords were done. I will always treasure Vin...as a child I would fall asleep listening to him and Jerry Dogget call the game. My sons fell asleep listening to Vin call a game. My grandsons fell asleep listening to Vin. He was an amazing story teller and for everything that he gave i hope that her rests in peace. Kirk...that at bat was amazing to watch...Vin...thanks for the call. I will never forget that night.
Where did the announcer go after the home run? Silence.
Year both my grandparents died use to have season tickets they would have loved to see this one of the greatest ball players
he did a great version of "When a Man Loves a Woman", wish it was on youtube.
Reggie is Mr. October and rightfully so. Gibson is VP and rightfully so.
I remember watching that game on TV and as Gibson was hobbling up to the plate to start his at bat, I said it’s the World Series I bet he hits a home run.
As a former athlete that withstood a lifetime of chronic pain, that was the most painful base run I've ever seen. That kid was floating on pure adrenalin. Such a wonderful memory!
What a great moment in Baseball History. I’ve watched this a few times .
